Baptism

“Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, article 1213)

Baptism - Holy InfantBaptism of Infants usually take place during one of the designated weekend liturgies. Parents are to participate in a Baptism Preparation Workshop prior to scheduling their child's baptism and are encouraged to register for the workshop several months in advance of the desired baptism date. For more information see Baptism of Infants.

Godparents, along with the parents, are responsible for the faith development of the child being baptized. Those serving as godparents must be willing to help the child they sponsor lead a Christian life. Therefore, at least one of the godparents must be a committed Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church (Canon 874). For other requirements and additional information, see Godparents Roles and Responsibilities.
