In the first four months of 2020, the Food Justice Garden has yielded nearly 400 pounds of food including carrots, greens and kale along with produce from the Lettuce Pray program.
The top producers for the first quarter garden are carrots at nearly 140 pounds and greens at 155 pounds. Parishioners who’ve planted an extra row in their own gardens have donated 20 pounds of produce already this year. Other crops popping up in the garden already are snap peas, onions and garlic, radishes, turnips, asparagus and even berries.
This food is vital to our community during this time. Our Food Justice Garden continues to make food deliveries to seniors at the Preiss-Steele housing complex and other areas of Durham. Home gardeners are encouraged to plant an extra row in their own gardens to donate. Donations are accepted on Tuesday mornings between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
