Safe Environment Trainings scheduled for August in Triangle

Initial and five-year renewal training being offered at area churches.

Fall is quickly approaching and that means a return to Faith Development and youth activities as well as Catholic schools.

Safe Environment Training is required by the Diocese of Raleigh for all clergy, employees and those in volunteer leadership positions working with children and youth in churches and Catholic schools.

Upcoming sessions locally are for initial safe environment training or for those needing the five-year renewal.

St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Chapel Hill, August 21, 6:30 pm

Holy Family Catholic Church, Hillsborough, August 22, 6:30 pm

The session will help equip adults with skills to recognize and report child maltreatment.  In cooperation with Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, more than 25,000 diocesan staff and volunteers have been trained on recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect.  This training allows all parishioners to be diligent in our efforts to be a safe and sacred place for children to grow in age, wisdom, and faith.

The diocese encourages parents to talk about new people and new experiences their children are having as they transition in and out of school, camps and church programs in the coming months. Communication is essential to creating and maintaining a safe environment all year round, the diocese notes.
