Rapid growth brings changes at Catholic Charities food pantry

More volunteers needed for expanded services. New staff added to facilitate programs.

Since moving to its new home in the Lakewood Shopping Center in May, Catholic Charities has seen tremendous growth in the number of people it serves daily.

In response, the organization has called for additional volunteers and added new staff.

Volunteers sought

The Durham Community Food Pantry will soon expand to distribute food three days a week. The pantry needs 20 to 30 volunteers for each day it is open. Training is provided.

New staff

Nicole Nash has joined the Durham office as the new Office Manager. This week, the group welcomed two new employees.

Melinda Charles, the new program director, will oversee the Durham Community Food Pantry and the Rev. Joseph G. Vetter Family Enrichment Center (outreach, case management, and financial assistance programs). Lola Campos is the assistant director of the Durham Community Food Pantry. Melinda and Lola will replace Elise Mudd, who provided leadership during the transition to the new food pantry and enrichment center this year.
