Holy Infant Ministry Calls for Volunteers on Behalf of Local Summer Feeding Program

Join forces with the Social Justice, Education and Initiatives Ministry by lending your time to the Summer Feeding Program at Parkwood Methodist. Volunteers are needed to serve breakfast or lunch to local school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry this summer.

Approximately 66% of the students enrolled in Durham Public Schools received free or reduced lunch in the 2016/2017 school year. When the school year ends, parents of these roughly 22,500 children can struggle to cover the financial burden of increased food costs over the summer.

To ensure no child goes hungry, local food pantries offer summer feeding programs that serve breakfast and lunch to children 18 years or younger. The Holy Infant Community Garden, part of the Social Justice, Education and Initiatives Ministry, works with the Parkwood PTA Pantry year round. In fact, produce from the Lettuce Pray project directly benefits this pantry.

In support of the Parkwood Summer Feeding Program, the Social Justice, Education and Initiatives Ministry is calling on Holy Infant parishioners to help serve breakfast or lunch to children in need Monday through Thursday, now through August 3.

Breakfast is served from 9 AM to 10 AM and lunch is served from 12 PM to 1 PM.
