Email Scam Alert

Once again, members of our parish community have been targeted through email by someone pretending to be a member of our clergy or staff. 

Scammers often try to gain your trust by pretending to be someone you know, such as a member of our clergy or parish staff. 

If you receive an email or text that appears to come from a parish staff member and that asks for access to your personal financial information or requests that you make a payment or purchase. DO NOT REPLY or CLICK LINKS in the email or text. 

What you should do if you think an email, text, or phone call may be from a scammer: 

• Please verify that the message isn’t a scam by speaking directly to the clergy or staff member, or their appropriate staff, through known phone numbers or by sending a new email to the clergy or staff member using a known email address. 
• Be wary of any “too good to be true,” “first come, first serve,” or other unsolicited offers to help you fill out forms for grants or other forms of financial assistance.
• Some scammers may use a type of phishing attack called “spoofing” where the email appears to be from an @holyinfantchurch.org email address. This doesn’t mean that the staff or clergy’s individual email account or the parish email server has been hacked. 
• Don’t open documents or click on links to documents.
• Don’t give your bank or any personal information that could in any way provide someone with the knowledge to impersonate you.
