Each summer, for the last 6 years, middle and high school youth of Holy Infant have come together for DeSales Service Works, a retreat focused on Salesian spirituality, fellowship and meaningful service with local community partnerships.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, youth and leaders engaged in meaningful in-person service with local community partnerships, and virtual and in-person formation on Salesian spirituality. Leaders Lea Chiquito and Frances Harris are back this year to guide teens in 7th to 12th grades through three day-long retreats once a month this summer in June, July and August.
Our first retreat will be on June 28 and participants will be helping out at the Urban Ministries of Durham Shelter.
In years past, the teens have sorted books at Book Harvest, helped with food distribution at Catholic Charities, and sorted and folded clothes for the Urban Ministries Shelter of Durham. Teens have also done service work for Families Moving Forward, Keep Durham Beautiful and our own Food Justice Garden.
DeSales Service Works is a Catholic service organization sponsored by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and based in the heart of Camden, New Jersey. Learn more about DeSales Service Works here and check out pictures from past retreats.
