In a normal year, the Little Holiday Sale and a ministry collaboration with The King’s Knitters from Christ the King Church yield socks and underwear as well as scarves and hats to send to Immaculate Conception Church in Camden, NJ.
This year, with no Little Holiday Sale and no annual potluck with The King’s Knitters, the ministry asked the whole parish to assist the effort. And boy, did you step up!
Thanks to everyone’s generosity, donations included 24 pairs of children’s socks, which have been given to Welcome Baby, as well as 220 different items for women and 512 items for men. Normally, the Yarn Ministry collects about 300 to 400 items each year.
Items are being shipped to Camden this week. Many items will stay right here in Durham to help agencies working with the homeless.
During the pandemic, the members of the Yarn Ministry worked on cold-weather items at home, cheering each other on through Zoom meetings. As a result, the knitters produced 100 items such as scarves, hats and the like, which will be sent to Camden. In addition, the ministry has given 85 children’s hats and 7 pairs of mittens to the local Welcome Baby Program.
The Yarn Ministry wants to thank everyone who has supported us in this new pandemic-era way of doing things. Holy Infant has always been so generous with the Share Your Christmas program, and this year the Parish has extended itself even further to assist the ministry in its work.
