On Dec. 10, the Durham County Board of Adjustment put its final stamp on our Special Use Permit, paving the way for our next steps.
A pre-construction meeting with the Durham County Erosion Control Department took place on Thursday, Dec. 12 to ensure that erosion control measures and a maintenance plan are in place to prevent sediment runoff and to review the requirements to keep roadways clean.
During the week of Dec. 16, site work will begin and we expect the following to occur:
Closure of the Highway 54 entrance to the church
Establishment of construction zones and access paths to the church
Arrival of workers and equipment on our property
For daily and weekend masses, Knights of Columbus members will use an eight-passenger golf cart to transport people who need additional assistance to and from the church. The cart will be available before and after each Mass.
Overflow parking will be in the business office complex across Southpark Drive. The general contractor is required to maintain a clear path for parishioner access to and from the existing church and parking lot. There will be some additional distance for parishioners in good health to walk.
Construction fencing will be in place and the route may change depending on the phase of the project. The general contractor will ensure that the path to the church is wide enough and a separate path is provided for the golf cart.
